Hi - do you have or recommend a 220V/110V step-down transformer to use with the 21142 corded grass trimmer?

Asked by: Adam74
Hello Adam74, If the step-down transformer can output around 1500W it should be fine. This unit outflows 1200W therefore 1500W gives a little excess for surges on startup etc.

What is the part number for the bump knob for the 21142 trimmer? Is it SUN-341041429 or SUN-341041429AB? Thank you.

Asked by: PedroI
Hello PedroI, No, this is not the correct bump knob for model 21142. If you have the solid black trimmer head it would be replacement - 31108836 for the whole trimmer head. If you have a serial number we can better advise. If you have a green bump knob this would not be the right trimmer head for you. If correct you can order the item from our third party vendor here: https://greenworks.ordertree.com/

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most powerful electric trimmer I've found I was sick of messing with gummed up carbs from my trimmers sitting for long periods and my previous attempt with a corded trimmer left a lot to be desired, but after noting this was about 2x as powerful, I took a chance. Fantastic. Lighter than my gas powered trimmer, about as powerful, and takes all the old attachments. I was a little worried about using the edger attachment, but it worked just fine. After about 45 min of continuous use, there were no signs of overheating or anything which was my big concern. Can't recommend this enough - just take time to plan your route and the cord is a non-issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst trimmer I have ever owned Had to stop using it after 10 minutes as the string ran out. I've used corded trimmers for the past 15 years. String is too thin and weak. Even careful use around borders or sidewalk required it to be bumped after a few feet. Handle cannot be tightened enough so that it won't rotate. String holder is very cheaply made with a small capacity. Didn't even finish front yard before it ran out. Safety holder for cord will not accept a loop of a lower gauge (thicker) cord. String shield blocks view when trying to use as an edger. I'm an engineer and this is the cheapest quality and most poorly designed power tool I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First impression is positive Plenty of power. Line is a little wimpy. May have to see what I can do to improve the diameter of the line. I have read on-line that string replacement can be challenging. I have not had it long enough to have to replenish the string. My main complaint is that the trimmer head rotates counterclockwise- so debris is thrown against my feet since I am right handed. If I could figure out how to make it rotate the opposite direction I would. That would be a big improvement. Other than that I am quite happy with it the 3 times I have used it so far. Check back with me at the end of the mowing season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of power, low vibration I have three gasoline powered string trimmers that I cannot use anymore due to the damage to my hands caused by the vibration of the internal combusion engines. The usual corded string trimmer you find at the box stores is just too weak to do any serious work. This unit does the job. It has plenty of power, is easy to restring, is well balanced (no heavy motor hanging on the end), and vibration is very low. I use a 100' 12 gauge extension cord with a 25' 16 gauge "pigtail" ( lighter and easier to handle), all wound on a thrift store hose reel with wheels. No more tingly hands! That being said, the machine is far from silent and it literally screams at you to the point where you may consider using some hearing protection. The cutting spool also rotates counterclockwise which means that your primary cutting direction should be from right to left to avoid stuff being thrown back at you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, with issues I bought this 3 years ago. In that time I've had trouble keeping the head from loosening from vibration, the bolt that holds the two-part handle together sheared off. ( Good steel bolts don't do this ), the steel handle became extremely warm from some sort of internal friction. Try as I might I cannot quite get the tool to balance so the weight is even and the tool swings comfortably while using it. There is no well-thought-out loops or attachment points for a shoulder strap that would take the weight of the motor/hand-piece and support it. This MAY give it that balance I have not been able to achieve. The safety/trigger arrangement is small and difficult to hold down. It tends to cramp my fingers after long use. It makes it safe as it takes EFFORT to hold it down so accidentally starting the motor is highly unlikely but using it is not pleasant. The string feed, like most string feeds, is basically garbage so I switched it out for nylon knife-like cutter blades. These last a long time. Recently the guard decided to fall off without warning and the bolt and clamp that held it flew off in different directions and without a metal detector I will not be able to find them. I came here to seek parts but they are not offered. I may contact customer service, so at this point it would be unfair to say Greenworks does not offer them. The motor is quite powerful, which is good, but it's design could be better, the weight more evenly distributed, solid loops could be added to attach a shoulder strap and a shoulder strap could be provided or offered to help with the weight of this awkward thing that tends to strain your lower back over time. Love it and despise it, but too cheap to throw it out and so far unable to find a great way to customize it to my satisfaction.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extremely powerful The strongest corded electric string trimmer made, maybe the only one as powerful as strong gasoline-powered products. The user manual describes a different string spool assembly cover and says the spool can be accessed by unscrewing a plastic cap at the end. Actually it's held together by a pair of snaps on the sides that have to be squeezed together to release the cover. A 6" long metal rod is included but not documented. It's for holding the driveshaft so it doesn't turn when removing the entire string spool assembly but is not needed for just changing the string.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lot's of power, over heats, melts line At first i was very happy with this trimmer, it had tons of power and the edging attachment works great. My problems started fairly quickly though, the trimming line kept melting inside the head. Greenworks customer support was beyond useless, I think there was a lubrication issue in the head. So i started using it just for edging, the metal blade can't melt! Then while performing some intense edging for the first time this year, the motor overheated and fried, even while using a 12 gauge, 50' cord. I contacted customer support again but have not gotten any response yet a week later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and Strength! We have some pretty tough vegetation here in south Texas, and .065 string just doesn't do the job - would go through over half a spool in one cutting! So glad to have the thicker string offered in a corded electric trimmer. I've never had a bump feed trimmer before, so I need to get more familiar with that function, but this tremor is powerful and durable...perfect for tougher stuff!
