Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Suprised We purchased a house last fall. The lawn was full of thatch and moss. I tried a thatching blade on the mower which did an ok job. My son sent me a video of this thatcher. I purchased it and was surprised how well it worked. Because of the amount of thatch I had to move slowly or it would bog down. When done I removed 10-12 large wheelbarrows of thatch. I'm giving the lawn a couple weeks to recover and will do it again as there is still more thatch to be removed. Nice little machine that did a great job. I would suggest larger wheels as it got stuck in holes, also an adjustable handle height. I'm all of 5'4" and the handle came up to my chest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great and does not tear up lawn very much 5 years of ownership. I have used this atleast 10 times. The very first time I used it, there must have been 5 brown bags of thatch and the lawn looked thin out. I dethatch twice a year now and the lawn looks great. First time I had 5 brown bags full, now I get about 2 a year. As far as durability. The machine will rattle itself apart. There is a rubber flap with 2 wing nuts. They will rattle loose and fall out. I think the machine works better with out the flap. Thatch can build up in the machine and get thrown back down in with the flap. With out it, the machine just spits it right out the back on top of the lawn. Also, at the bottom of the white handle near the green machine, there is a black block. There is a 2" sheet metal screw threw the white handle and that black block into the green machine housing. Over time the vibrations of the machine and movement of the handle will cause that screw to break. So keep an eye out when that black block falls out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Green Monster! When it first came, I looked at it and thought, I had just bought another worthless piece of junk! I was wrong!!! This machine did everything and more that it was supposed too! Lightweight, easy as could be to assemble! More than enough power to rip thru worst of thatch buildup! I had a moss and thatch layer, that was over an 1" thick (looked like a shag rug from the 70's)! It ripped thru it like a hot knife thru butter! I have never been more satisfied with an American made product in my life!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Simple and Impressive! For a small yard that hasn't been power raked in 10 years, this Dethatcher did the trick! I couldn't believe the amount of thatch that was lifted and the simplicity of it all was amazing! Dealing with the cord was a little tedious, but I'm so happy to have saved a ton of money over hiring out the job or renting a professional power rake. The best part is I own this and can use it every year from now on! Totally recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from De-Thatch and Speed Does what it suppose to do, De-thatch. Easy to handle, you have to monitor your speed in order to ensure it does not move to fast or to slow, i did a regular pace to de-thatch then used the lawnmower to pick up the thatch material. Perfect for my size yard (less than an acre).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dethatcher - this tool will surprise you! Easy to use, excellent performance, reliable operation, effective consistent and quick execution.Note: we used this on a perfectly level bluegrass lawn. Therefore, there was no strain on the motor or inconsistent results. Definitely produces lots of thatch off the lawn bed. Only minus is no bag attachment, so we had to rake thatch into multiple piles prior to bagging it.

Wondering if this will work on crabgrass in northern Calif.? or will it just tangle up?

Asked by: tamarama
Hello tamarama, Crabgrass can be controlled in a number of ways, but the best defense against crabgrass is a thick vigorously growing lawn that is mowed no closer than 2 1/2" for cool season grasses.

My lawn thickness varies. I see that there is no longer a height adjustment setting listed in specs. Can you tell me why it was eliminated?

Asked by: PetePNW
Hello PetePNW, For optimal performance the height adjustment has been set to 10mm. This was to be more user friendly and avoid confusion with the setting options. Prior to using a detatcher we do recommend that your grass be mowed to its lowest seasonal height.

I noticed the 27022 had an adjustable height, and this model has a fixed height. What happens if the fixed height it a little too low and removing too much material?

Asked by: WindCoder
Hello WindCoder, The setting that is preset is the optimal dethatching height. If you notice too much is coming out then you may need to mow your lawn prior to use. Your lawn should be at its shortest length prior to dethatching.

I just bought the dethacher 27022 and not seeing the cord that I need to buy. Is there a 100 ft cord I can buy for this? the machine is a 2 prong and when I bought a green works brand that they recommend, it's a 3 prong; is that right?

Asked by: Yolanda
Hello Yolanda, Please refer to your manual page 8. For a 100' cord you will need a 12 gauge for the cord. The machine has two prongs as it's double insulated. However, a standard 3 slot extension cord will work with this unit. Yes, the GreenWorks branded extension cord is compatible.

What is the difference between models DT14B00 and 27022?

Asked by: Tribe
Hello Tribe, The main difference is model DT14B00 is our newest and updated model. It has upgraded internal electrics to be more efficient and reliable. However, both are more than capable of all your dethatching needs.
