Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than a gym membership! I have had my mower for 7 years and only have oiled but never sharpened the blades. I never put it under cover either and it had been exposed to the elements that while. This year is the first to give me problems but are of my own doing. The handle broke after using it 2 years without the correct hardware to hold the handle together. I also ran it into a hidden stump and bent the front in a bit and it still works but just squeaky when using it. I have 1/2 acre I cut with this beautiful, elegant and whisper quiet machine of which you provide the power. It is as easy to push as one with an engine but the slight resistance encountered slicing your grass to a laser flat level gives a gentle but potent workout. I dont even know the miles I have logged behind my mower but it's over a thousand for sure and I'm heartbroken that the handle has given out even tho the rest works well. I will make note that this company stands behind its product for 2 years and mine lasted almost 4 times longer while being abused. I do not recommend leaving it outside and running into stumps by any means. I am not paid by this company in any way nor have I ever written a review for a tool but this is one that never runs outta gas even though I have and it is eco friendly safe enough that a 5 year old can help do it although I'm sure the manufacturer would disagree bigtime. Thats proof I'm not on the take. No gas oil or spark plug on this. Won't throw your back out trying to start it. It makes something I always enjoy doing just a delight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The push mower But I just wanted to push the mower and let it blow the grass cuttings behind it and the tray that was there to help support the basket would get caught and fill up and I did not want that I wanted one that was more like the old style anyway I thank you it was my idea to try it and it was me not the mower that necessarily did not work for what I had intended it to do but thank you very much it was a nice mower

For other reel mowers, sharpening the blades involves spinning the reel backward. Here manual doesn't mention this (page 15). A sharpening kit is mentioned in pg 2, but I cant find this kit anywhere. Anything I am missing? Should blades spin forward?

Asked by: Ansel
Hello Ansel, Thank you for your question. Sharpening kit for reel mowers can be purchased at most hardware stores. The reel should be cranked backwards.

Do you have a video to demonstrate the blade adjustment? It is hard to get it right for 1st time users.

My question was how much adjustment is needed for normal cutting since it came without factory adjustment (why not?). The answer to my original post above was just copied from the manual which doesn’t address my question!

Asked by: goldenbear
Hello goldenbear, Our apologies. At times misalignment can occur during shipping and use. This is why it's important to understand and familiarize yourself with the adjustment bolts. As advised previously, adjustment must be done until you can slide a single sheet of printer paper through the gap between the fixed and revolving blade. All blades should slice the paper evenly, along the entire length of the cutter bar while the reel turns smoothly. If mower has an intermittent cut, adjustment should be made to the appropriate side of the blades to attain proper cutting action. We hope this helps. If you have further questions or concerns and would like to discuss these concerns in more detail, please feel welcome to contact us at 1-888-909-6757 for further assistance. We're happy to help.

I received it today from Amazon, the manual said the blades are factory adjusted but they rub against the bar as I turn, so I did the adjustment myself. I turned both adjustment screws by half a turn using an allen key, is the gap too big for normal use?

Asked by: goldenbear
Hello goldenbear, Adjusting the cutting bar can be a bit tricky. At times misalignment can occur, often caused by blades being too loose or too tight. This can cause an uneven cut or difficulty pushing the mower. Each end of the cutting bar is adjusted separately. To move the cutting bar closer to the blades turn the adjustment screw clockwise. To move the cutting bar away from the blades turn the adjustment screw counter clockwise. Adjusting the screws for blade adjustments is a very sensitive procedure. A sixteenth of a turn is considered a major adjustment. Before tightening one adjustment screw, make sure to loosen the opposite screw an equal amount. To check the adjustment Turn mower upside down. Insert a piece of paper between cutter bar and reel blades, and slowly turn wheel by hand. All blades should slice the paper evenly, along the entire length of the cutter bar while the reel turns smoothly. If mower has an intermittent cut, adjustment should be made to the appropriate side of blades to attain proper cutting action. Do not over-tighten adjustment screws, as this could damage cutter bar. Both screws must be tight on final adjustment. If you continue to have issues, please contact our Support line at 1-888-909-6757 or email us directly on info@greenworkstools.com. We're happy to help.
