Rated 5 out of 5 by BullCityDan from Excellent small saw for home use Bought this tool for clean up of my wooded residential lot. Powerful and quick to start and stop, this is a great beginner's saw or for infrequent use because the only oil needed is bar & chain oil, so set up, clean up and storage are easy. I felled 10 trees of 12" diamater or less and stripped/bucked them all on one charge of a 4aH battery. Excellent battery life on the 2.5 as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by THEBIGMAC from Best chainsaw I've ever owned! I have owned gas powered tools all my life, so I did a lot of research before purchasing a battery powered chainsaw. I first read all the the reviews and compared prices; most of the owners I was researching were the folks who cut timber for a living...they all said the same thing while at work...."95% of the time, I reach for the cordless Greenworks chainsaw!" That is what convinced me and now that I own one, I will never again purchase gas powered equipment as long as Greenworks makes a battery/cordless version. If you use the Greenworks Chain/Bar oil made for this equipment...this thing will cut thru timber like a hot knife thru butter! Buy this saw...you will feel as good about your purchase as I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Midwest Hacker from Great saw overall I have 2 gas saws and "had" a competitors model in 60V. The Greenworks saw beat the other battery saw easily. Power was much more linear. Batteries lasted longer. Overall the Greenworks was even quieter. I have 5 other Greenworks tools but got sucked in by advertising for the competitors 60V. Lesson learned, stick with what you know.

And I just want to say that it is the best chainsaw I have ever used and I bought another one because the other one I used to death I cut my own wood and I split it not with the chainsaw but with aynax but I have found that this product is the best thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LeeB9 from Better than gas! Literally bought this for my wife's Mother's Day gift as she tires of waiting on me and/or the sometimes working gas chain saw when she wants a limb or two here and there cut down on our 2 acre property. Touch of a button cranking is awesome, power is sufficient and sooo much more convenient that the same size gas saw. Very easy to tighten chain. When you put the battery in it is a bit heavier than anticipated but not bad. Can't rate accurately on durability as haven't had long but battery charge (40 volt) lasts longer than we want to saw at any one time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sticklady from Great little saw! I bought this saw for yard work. I owned a business for many years and used a gas chainsaw to gather cedar. I had heard that the new battery driven chainsaws were user friendly and a great option for small jobs. I already happily own a greenworks lawnmower so your saw was the obvious choice! No more gas fumes for me or the environment. (Solar power creates the electricity I use)

Rated 5 out of 5 by ishpar236 from Powerful, Quiet and Light Weight... We own a 110 acre farm, that means lots of cutting, chopping and general property grooming. The two gas powered chainsaws I own are a pain to use because they are hard starting. I basically wear myself out pulling the ropes until I get light headed. So this year I did research on battery powered chainsaws and decided to give Greenworks a try. Well we put our new 20312 G-Max 40V chainsaw to work on a 20 foot long, 10 inch round fallen tree limb and our Greenworks did not disappoint. The battery charge indicator was very helpful keeping me aware of my power status. My wife loved how light weight, easy and SAFE it was to use. To make a long story short, Greenworks is now our favorite company, are you guys publicly traded because I want to buy your stock!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DaveBelmont from Very impressed I bought this a while back for light yard work and it worked fine. Really easy to use and much more convenient that an gas saw. Then we had a big willow fall at the back of our yard. In the last few months i have made many cuts more than 12 inches and one around 30 inches. The saw has been great. It will only do 30 or 40 minutes of active work before recharging but that is OK for me. If you are thinking "it will do the regular stuff but what if ...?" then i have been there and it was great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chuck K from Cordless Gmax Chainsaw Really good piece of equipment. Easy to use and is quite powerful for an electric chainsaw. Got close to 3 hours on one charge. Obviously the more power you use on a cut the faster it drains battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by yankee715 from Cuts Great Powerful I received this chainsaw 2 weeks ago and couldn't wait to start cutting some trees in the yard since I just moved into the home recently. we have been doing a lot of landscaping and needed to cut down some smaller trees to make the nature scape that we wanted and to put the fire pit in, I was able to use the battery that came with my blower so I didn't have to wait the 2 hours to charge the battery the first time. I went out and got some chain oil at the local Loews and filled the chainsaw, surprised that It didn't come with the first bottle, but that's ok. after running the chainsaw to make sure chain was lubricated I went to work on the first tree about 6" in diameter and it went thru like butter. I cut the tree up into fire wood for our first winter season at the house. I look forward to using the chainsaw more (have a lot of trees to take down). again this is the second product from Greenworks and look forward to replacing more of my gas and electric tools with battery. going to try to get the 80V backpack blower have a lot of yard with ALOT of trees and also the 24V drill looks to be pretty nice. check back for more reviews as I get more tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Davester from Great saw I've had this saw for a few years now. It is my go to for yard cleanup. I have 5 acres of house/lawn and trees. It is pretty powerful overall and will cut through 16" logs if you don't get to crazy with it. I like that I don't have to mix 2 stroke. If I have big jobs I prefer my Stihl just because of the power and ease of refueling. I have only 1 battery and for the most part that's all I really need. I highly recommend this saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LAJOHNSTON from GreenworksTools - Cordless Brushless Chainsaw I'm a retired Forester and am well accustomed to using chain saws. I purchased the battery chainsaw because as I'm getting older and not able to fight with a gas powered chainsaw to start I wanted this one to go when I say go and stop when I get tired. LOL It works great for what I need it for. I recently cut down 3 trees I no longer wanted and it made quick work of the project. Plenty of power and long lasting as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jsm1226 from Great tool I have had this 60volt 16inch chainsaw for a little more than one week and am really quite surprised by this chainsaw. It really does perform like a gas chainsaw, but without the hassle of mixing the fuel, priming it and then pulling to start it. Some say you do not need hearing protection, but I find that you really do. It is quieter than a gas powered unit, but it is still load enough for hearing protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Callalily711 from Not the Sharpest Crayon Saw Review Rather than pay a few too many dollars to have someone cut down various trees and overgrown bushes, I decided to purchase this item and cut things myself. I’ve never used a saw before. I’ve never had so much fun using a power tool. You just put oil in it, put some safety gloves on, hold it steady, and saw to your hearts content. I named her ‘Snaps’. It is a delight to use this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KahunaJim from Perfect for me The 2nd day after perchasing it we had two large trees go down in a microburst along our gravel road. I move as much to the side as possible with the tractor and then had to pull my new new Greenworks 14" chainsaw out and fired it up. No gas, no oil, no cranking. It did quick work on the tree trunks and was able to get the road cleared within minutes. Easy- peasy

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlanSB from Does a great job I purchased the 16" 40v on 08/01/2018 and have used it many times since that date. I had to replace the chain recently (cheaper than having it sharpened). The replacement was an easy off, easy on assembly. The saw cuts through wood and tree limbs with little or no effort. I have 7 other Greenworks tools I went with the bare bones unit (no battery or charger)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gdstepp from Gets the job done! This tool has been a miracle worker on my twenty acre homestead. I purchased the chainsaw after watching how easily my son mowed his lawn with his Greenworks battery powered mower. No more hassle, mixing gas and oil and trying to store it for future use in a traditional, gas powered chainsaw! Just keep chain oil in it, and the battery charged, and cut away!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Susiespinner from Easy to use! This is my first ever chainsaw. I am a 63 year old woman.I wanted an electric, battery operated small chainsaw It is not too heavy, and works very well for my needs (cutting small bits of firewood, clearing field edges, processing kindling). The battery charge lasts about as long as I haven't had it long, but so far I'm pleased with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by hthotht from Easy to use. I would've given this chainsaw 5 stars, if not for two things, 1st chainsaw doesn't come with oil,(can't use it, out of the box) 2nd I would've liked a longer Battery time (charged battery a full day before using). Other than those things, Good weight,, easy start up, Stop is on point. Cutting down a 10foot Yucca, was nothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RailcarJanie from Great option during fire restrictions We bought this for cutting firewood and for cutting limbs around the house. I use a Stihl gas saw for work which is OK but I wanted something that was gas-free at home. The power has been fine for basic cuts and one battery is more than enough to cut up a downed 14" diameter tree. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Docx from Better Than Gas I own one of these and a limb saw. Both are strong and dependable. They work every bit as well if not better than gas powered equipment. Would not have anything else. Have had to cut down several large oaks and it wasn't a problem. Batteries last a very long time and recharge in no time at all. Great equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Swamp Road from Good saw but not as good as the original Over all it's a good saw but not as good as the original. I purchased the same model in 2014 and used it extensively. Current version takes longer to get to speed and chain spins longer after trigger release. Power is good once it's up to speed, just not as zippy a performer as what I was used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tyty from Very pleased Semi-professional+ tree cutter. I've used this when I had break-downs with gas powered saws. Performance has no comparison but this has been consistent and filled in many times - even if it means I can only get a one to two cuts in 30" wide rounds or 10 cuts in 12" rounds - I can do some other work while the battery is charging. No sudden unexpected freeze-up in cylinder of a gas saw which points to potentially a broken saw, no worry about spark plug, gas mix and gas. I also cut big woody portions of fruit trees with this. I need to say this one thing as I know we have the populace uninformed: battery operated saws (and cars) are not directly related to burning gas but indirectly as in recharging electricity is produced often from burning of coal, natural gas and other such material, with some generated from renewable types of energy so do not assume it's 100% free from the use of fossil fuels and CO2 generation (not a big scare as many want you to think - take it from a scientist).

I had the saw on a workbench for several weeks. The bar oil leaked out all over the bench. Is there a way to store the saw without emptying the oil reservoir or is that the answer?
Hello GlenInMalta, To store the unit for long period of time we do recommend that the oil reservoir be emptied. You can also loosen the cap of the oil reservoir to alleviate any built up pressure. However, the best method to ensure no leaking occurs is to empty the oil reservoir.

Could you use a 60 volt Greenworks battery in this unit and could this 40 volt battery that comes with it be used in my 60V leaf blower? I also want to purchase a Greenworks mower and trimmer. What is the best grouping? Can the batteries be interchanged?
Hello Leo525, The Greenworks 60V units are not interchangeable within the G-Max 40V line. GreenWorks manufactures a range of voltage platforms from 24V - 80V, essentially, the higher the voltage the more power and torque a unit will provide so the choice of voltage can depend on the conditions of your property and user preference. What is the difference between a 80 volt & a 40volt chainsaw, and what is the difference between a 2AH,2.5AH and a 4AH battery.
Hello Sir Paul, The difference between the voltage is the power. The more voltage the unit has the more powerful it is. The Ah or ampere hour refer to the size of the battery. The more Ah (amp hour) the battery is the longer the runtime.

How often will I need to replace the chain?
