Rated 4 out of 5 by from works well without the hassle of mixing gas I bought this trimmer because I already had a Poulan string trimmer with attachments. The attachments I already have fit this trimmer. I have worn out two gas Poulan trimmers on light home use. Though I would give a battery powered trimmer a try. I already have a green works chainsaw for light tree trimming that works well. Batteries are the same which mean fewer chargers sitting around. have 2.5 and 5 amp hours batteries. 2.5 amp hour battery is plenty for the trimming I do on the 2 acres of lawn I mow. Hopefully this trimmer lasts longer than the 3 to 5 years I get out of Poulan 2 cycle motors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great HD Trimmer, similar performance to gas Brushless motor in a 40V Lithium platform makes for a very powerful and efficient tool. Low and High speeds that are both variable (4070-4800 and 4070-5540 RPM no load, as tested) make it very versatile. Being able to accept various brands of attachments in place of the string trimmer attachment, makes it even more versatile. Efficient battery usage thanks to the brushless motor … you can get respectable run time even out of the smaller 2.0/2.5Ah batteries if you use LOW speed and vary the trigger speed based on what you are trimming. Max out low or switch to high only when you get into thick stuff that needs it and you will get longer run time. String trimmer head is the simple feed through design and very robust; the bump feed also works better than the similar brand "X" version. Plus it mounts to the head with a larger 10MM bolt instead of an 8MM that the other brand uses. Anti-wrap shield comes up higher than the other brand too so the likelihood of long grass/weeds getting wrapped up around the shaft above the bump head is as close to impossible as you can get. Bigger defector shield than what the other brand uses is a plus as well. Only downside is it is a bit heavy … 13.18 lbs. w/ 2.5Ah or 14.22 lbs. w/ 4Ah battery … which is 15% heavier than the lighter duty brand "X" brushed motor equiv. (11.24 lbs. w/ 2.6Ah battery). This Greenworks Trimmer does come with a shoulder strap that helps manage the weight, plus the higher performance, added robustness, and better features far exceed the additional weight. Bought the "Tool Only" because I already had 3 batteries and 2 chargers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean & quiet PORT ANGELES, Wash — I have to hide my chuckles whenever my next-door neighbor trims his lawn. Chatting over the fence, he has nothing but complaints about his gas-powered string trimmer. He’s glad to have a break from its noise and fumes. “How’s that Greenworks of yours work?” Dave always asks. “Like a charm” is my response. “Why don’t you buy one?” I counter. But Dave thinks lawn work must be noisy, smelly, heavy and hard. I, though, am a convert. I ditched my old gas-powered string trimmer after it hung unused for two years while I used my Greenworks machine. I also had no further use for my fuel can, bottle of fuel stabilizer and quarts of motor oil — not to mention the puddles of oil and gasoline that always managed to evade the funnel when I tried to save the remnants. My 40-volt, 14-inch G-Max trimmer has met every task I’ve set it to: high grass, dry grass, wet grass, wet and high grass, even those dense knots of turf that have persisted so long even their roots are above ground. It even cuts most blackberry vines. That’s with the shield in place. Remove it and, hooboy, I feel like trimming across Dave’s yard and down the block. Just be sure both strands of trimmer line are even. If they are lopsided (without the shield’s cutter to keep them equal), the motor will sense the imbalance and shut off after a few seconds. Being a neatnick, I clean caked grass and dirt from the trimmer head and shield, just like I’ve always done. But I don’t spill oil or gas or fill my nostrils with fumes or need ear protection, just like I always used to do. And I’ll always urge Dave to switch to Greenworks. My Greenworks trimmer: It’s an always breed of machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Battery compatibility not clear Bought this trimmer planning to use it with a couple of 2Ah batteries I have for my chainsaw, as these are listed as compatible when you look at the kit (trimmer, battery and charger) specifications. They work, but after about 5 minutes the trimmer shuts down and the batteries are too hot to touch. You cannot even charge them unless you wait about an hour for them to cool down, If you try to charge them before that the charger shows the batteries are charged. So I have to buy a 4Ah battery, but the problem is that it is out of stock here and everywhere else so right now I can't use the trimmer as I am afraid to burn the batteries out. As the 5Ah battery is in stock (this is getting expensive) I will get that one hoping it works. So, about the trimmer itself, it works great during those 5 minutes so if it works as expected with the new battery I will gladly correct my review to a perfect 5. Of course, I might be all wrong and my trimmer is bad, but can only be sure after testing with the new battery

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I couldn’t be happier What a game changer. I used to think trimming was a chore, now I actually enjoy doing it. The tool is quiet, powerful, light, and really does the job. Plus, the string advance feature works well. 5 stars and thanks to greenworks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great compliment to my Greenworks lawnmower Well built — not an abundance of cheap plastic. Easy to operate and uses the same size 40 volt battery as the GW lawnmower I purchased a couple of years back. This multitool has a WIDE array of available attachments making the name “string trimmer” somewhat a misnomer. Note: It’s quieter than those noisy gas operated devices but still not quiet (to my ears) when in operation; of course it’s perfectly quiet when ON but not spinning, unlike gas operated trimmers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built Very well built, but heavy. Luckily it comes with a shoulder belt which carries a lot of the load. Performs very well, and the line feed worked longer than my old trimmer. It also has an on/off power button which shuts power off if you aren't currently using it (nice safety feature). Another thing I like is that it can accept both the large 40 volt or the small 40 volt battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product It went together easily and works as advertised. Some have complained about the lack of replacement spools but the instructions for reloading the spool seem straight forward. I feel like it eats the battery quicker than the Greenworks 40V chainsaw but I still finished my yard with 2 out of 4 (half) battery lights. Not needing to mix fuel is fantastic.
