When it comes to battery-powered platforms for outdoor tools, one of the most common questions our customers ask is: “Which voltage do I need?” In general, the bigger the yard, the higher the voltage, but that’s not the whole story. The answer really depends on three main factors: 1) The size of your yard, 2) The types of projects you tend to work on, and 3) How much power you want at your fingertips.
Follow this comprehensive Greenworks guide to better understand our voltage platforms so you can choose the perfect power for your needs!
Choose the Right Voltage: From 24V to 82V
24V—Versatile and Reliable
The Greenworks 24V platform is our largest and most versatile battery family. It’s designed for everyday yard maintenance—lightweight, easy to handle, and perfect for small to medium yards. If you want flexibility across a wide range of tools, 24V is a great choice!
40V—Best Value
Our 40V line offers the best balance of power and affordability. Think of it as the “sweet spot” for homeowners. It has more muscle than 24V but stays budget-friendly (ideal if you’re looking for a reliable upgrade without going too big).
60V—Most Popular and Universal
If you want a platform that’s powerful, versatile, and a customer favorite, 60V is the way to go. It’s our most popular line because it works well for medium to large yards, giving you the strength you need without being overkill.
80V—Maximum Consumer Power
For those who want the most powerful Greenworks consumer tools available, our 80V line delivers! This heavy-duty platform is built for large yards and tough jobs that demand top-level performance.
82V—Commercial-Grade Power
This year, we’re proud to introduce our 82V commercial-grade line! Designed for professional landscapers and now available direct to consumers, Greenworks 82V tools are built with higher-grade, more rugged components for commercial applications. Note: While 80V and 82V sound similar, they are not the same. 80V and 82V use unique designs and are not cross-compatible because the physical connectors are built for very different applications. This prevents battery interchangeability without modifications.
Greenworks Tip: Stick with one voltage family so your batteries are interchangeable across tools. It saves money, storage space, and makes your yardwork simpler.
What's the Differences Between Voltages?
24V: Household power for supporting your lifestyle.
40V: Ideal for residential homeowners and hobbyists.
60V: Premium tools for serious lawncare experts.
80V: Take charge of your acreage with heavy-duty equipment.
82V: Professional tools for commercial landscaping.
At the end of the day, knowing how to choose the right voltage for your outdoor projects comes down to the size of your yard and the type of work you’ll be doing. Bigger yards require higher voltage—it’s as simple as that!
