String Trimmer FAQS

Why doesn’t my string trimmer turn on?

Battery operated string trimmer: Check that the battery has enough charge. Make sure to use a fully charged battery when starting your chores. Also, ensure the battery pack is installed and secured in the unit. If the battery is loose or can easily be removed it is not fully secured. A fully secured battery should have some resistance when pulled. Corded string trimmers: Use the guide inside the owner’s manual to ensure you have the correct extension cord required for operation. Check that the extension cords are in good working condition and make sure they are fully connected on both ends. If it still won't turn on, follow the start guide instructions that are located inside the owner’s manual.

How do I advance line?

Auto-feed string trimmers: To advance line, simply squeeze and release the trigger and repeat. Each time you start and stop the unit approximately ¼ inch of trimmer line will release. The more often you do this, the more line will advance. Bump and Feed string trimmers: While the unit is spinning, gently tap the bottom of the unit (knob) on the ground and the string trimmer will release approximately ¼ inch of line each time you tap it. The more often you do this, the more line will be released.

How do I clean my string trimmer?

To reduce yard debris build up on your string trimmer, do the following: • Wipe the machine after each use with a damp cloth dipped in water or neutral detergent. • Do not use aggressive detergents or solvents to clean the plastic parts or handles. • Keep the trimmer head free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease. • Keep the air vents clean and free of debris to avoid overheating and damage to the motor or battery. • Do not spray water onto the motor and electrical components.

Why does my unit stop when cutting grass?

Check the following if your unit suddenly stops cutting during use: • The guard is not on the unit. Ensure the guard is attached for each use. • The line is too heavy. Make sure you’re using the correct cutting line for your unit. Refer to the specification for the correct diameter of line that should be used with your string trimmer unit. • The motor is overloaded. Make sure that the cutting path (length of line outside of the trimmer head) is no more than the maximum cutting width of your unit. • The battery may be too warm. Allow it to cool and try again. Remove the battery from the unit and take it indoors to a cool/dry shaded location. Leave for 10 minutes, then try again once the the battery cools. • The battery pack may require charging or may not be properly installed.

Why isn’t my string trimmer cutting well?

Check that the guard is cleared of debris. Built up debris on the underside of the guard may prevent the line from cutting at its full potential. Ensure the cutting blade located on the underside of the guard is exposed, clean, and clear of debris. If the blade is dull, sharpen or replace the cutting blade. This will allow your trimmer line to work more effectively.

Edger FAQS

Why isn’t my edger turning on?

Battery operated edger: The battery capacity is low. Check the battery’s capacity by pushing the BCI button located on the front of the battery. Also, the connection from the unit to the battery may be loose or not properly secured. Check that battery is fully connected and seated inside the battery compartment. Corded edger: Refer to the owner’s manual to ensure you have the correct extension cord required for operation. Make sure the extension cord is in good working condition, then check that both ends of cords are fully connected. If necessary, test the cord on a similar Amp unit to ensure it can operate the string trimmer. Also, make sure to push the lockout button and trigger correctly: • Pull the lock-out-button and hold it. • Pull the trigger to start the machine. Refer to the instruction manual starting guide for further assistance.

Why did my edger stop?

Make sure the depth is not set too low. Adjust the depth as shown inside the instruction manual. If the edger starts to bog down, this is an indication that you’re moving too fast. Walk at a slow and steady pace to allow the blades to work more effectively.

Why does my edger not edge well?

To ensure the best edging results and a better appearance, do the following: • Edge when grass is dry. • Avoid edging in wet soil or wet grass. • Check the blade guard often and clear dirt and debris as needed.

How do I keep my unit clean?

To reduce yard debris build up on your edger, do the following: • Wipe the machine after each use with a damp cloth. • Do not use aggressive detergents or solvents to clean the plastic parts or handles. • Keep the trimmer head free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease. • Keep the air vents clean and free of debris to avoid overheating and damage to the motor or the battery. • Do not spray water on the motor and electrical components.

How do I store my unit?

• Prior to storage, clean and examine the machine for any damages. • Store the unit in a dry, covered, and cool location like a garage or shed. • Ensure that the unit is stored in a secure location that is not accessible to children or any other persons who should not be operating such machinery. • Remove the battery pack from the machine and store the battery in a cool and dry location. Refer to the owner’s manual for more information on battery storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 80V Edger via Snow Shovel Fabulous tool vs. Corded unit that is 12 yrs old. Based my decision on the fantastic service I get with my snow shovel - my first Greenworks tool. Was in need of a useful tool to use my snow shovel 80V B+....an edger was the key. Hefty power, light weight, high rpm, readily available blades, and 25% off for Fathers' Day. My first run saved me at least 25 min of work time, and had no cords to put away! I win!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right down the line I have a larger horseshoe driveway and curved sidewalk that hadn’t been edged in several years. This edger cut through the overgrowth of grass and sod without any issues and easily followed the line for a nice clean cut. All of the power of gas, but none of the smell, vibration or irritation of pulling a cord. Was able to edge all of the driveway on a single 4.0 amh charge.
