5 Quick Tips: How To Be More Environmentally Conscious

We all love the Earth – but it can be tricky to know how to help it. In honor of Earth Day on April 22, we’ve put together a few quick tips on easy ways to become more environmentally conscious.

1. Go electric

Take a close look at your home and yard – are there any opportunities to switch from gas-powered to electric? If you’re in the market for a new car, consider a hybrid or all-electric option. Upgrade your power tools from gas-guzzler to zero emissions with the sustainable Greenworks outdoor equipment, power tools, and more. From mowers to blowers, trimmers, drills and more – we’ve got you covered in your quest to be more green.

2. Schedule an energy audit of your home

Did you know that most local power companies offer a free at-home energy audit? In addition to tips like programming your thermostat, switching to low-flow showerheads and adding more insulation in cold spots, the power company is an excellent resource for maximizing your energy efficiency.

3. Grab a reusable water bottle

It’s tempting to grab a single-use water bottle when we’re on the go – but resist that temptation and keep a reusable water bottle in your car, backpack or purse so you can stay hydrated without contributing to a landfill. Toss a reusable insulated coffee cup into your bag as a reminder to avoid single-use Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts cups whenever possible.

4. Change up your laundry routine

It’s a simple-yet-powerful hack: you can save on energy costs by running your washer and dryer in the evening. Energy costs are typically lower after 7 p.m., making it less expensive and more efficient to knock out your laundry in the evening hours. Another pro tip: washing everything in cold water uses less energy (and keeps your colors from fading or running!).

5. Opt to go meat-free one day a week

Did you know that shifting one day a week to meat-free significantly lowers your dinner plate’s carbon footprint? The record-high demand for meat has destroyed precious land and resources to make more room for cattle. Incorporate a Meat-Free Monday, try out some new plant protein-rich recipes and feel confident that you’re making a small but powerful impact on the environment.
