String Trimmer FAQS

Why doesn’t my string trimmer turn on?

Battery operated string trimmer: Check that the battery has enough charge. Make sure to use a fully charged battery when starting your chores. Also, ensure the battery pack is installed and secured in the unit. If the battery is loose or can easily be removed it is not fully secured. A fully secured battery should have some resistance when pulled. Corded string trimmers: Use the guide inside the owner’s manual to ensure you have the correct extension cord required for operation. Check that the extension cords are in good working condition and make sure they are fully connected on both ends. If it still won't turn on, follow the start guide instructions that are located inside the owner’s manual.

How do I advance line?

Auto-feed string trimmers: To advance line, simply squeeze and release the trigger and repeat. Each time you start and stop the unit approximately ¼ inch of trimmer line will release. The more often you do this, the more line will advance. Bump and Feed string trimmers: While the unit is spinning, gently tap the bottom of the unit (knob) on the ground and the string trimmer will release approximately ¼ inch of line each time you tap it. The more often you do this, the more line will be released.

How do I clean my string trimmer?

To reduce yard debris build up on your string trimmer, do the following: • Wipe the machine after each use with a damp cloth dipped in water or neutral detergent. • Do not use aggressive detergents or solvents to clean the plastic parts or handles. • Keep the trimmer head free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease. • Keep the air vents clean and free of debris to avoid overheating and damage to the motor or battery. • Do not spray water onto the motor and electrical components.

Why does my unit stop when cutting grass?

Check the following if your unit suddenly stops cutting during use: • The guard is not on the unit. Ensure the guard is attached for each use. • The line is too heavy. Make sure you’re using the correct cutting line for your unit. Refer to the specification for the correct diameter of line that should be used with your string trimmer unit. • The motor is overloaded. Make sure that the cutting path (length of line outside of the trimmer head) is no more than the maximum cutting width of your unit. • The battery may be too warm. Allow it to cool and try again. Remove the battery from the unit and take it indoors to a cool/dry shaded location. Leave for 10 minutes, then try again once the the battery cools. • The battery pack may require charging or may not be properly installed.

Why isn’t my string trimmer cutting well?

Check that the guard is cleared of debris. Built up debris on the underside of the guard may prevent the line from cutting at its full potential. Ensure the cutting blade located on the underside of the guard is exposed, clean, and clear of debris. If the blade is dull, sharpen or replace the cutting blade. This will allow your trimmer line to work more effectively.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best purchases I have ever made I have a small garden and this machine in less than 15 minutes does an extraordinary job, I am very happy with the purchase, at the end I clean it with the blower and it is ready for the next job. I really like how quiet and powerful it is, when attached it takes up very little space and that makes me feel more happy for my choice, 100% recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st Non-Gas powered Mower So glad I took a chance and bought your 16 inch mower. Easy to assemble and a breeze to operate. Light weight and glides across my yard. Better still NO trip to the gas station to fill up that old 1 gallon gas can ! Great product and would not hesitate to recommend this "new trick" to other "old dogs" like myself. Worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving my corded lawn mower I wanted to wait to review this until I'd used it a few times. Just finished my 6th lawn mow of the summer and I'm loving this mower. It's light weight and has a handle so I can lift it with one hand to put it away! I was very excited about that because gas mowers are too heavy and awkward to lift. I can also turn it over to clean out any stuck grass without worrying about gas or oil leaking out the top like with gas mowers. I only have to stop maybe once every half hour to check and see if there's grass build up on the bottom, unless I use the bag, which I only did the very first time when my lawn was overgrown. Using the bag definitely added to how long it took me to mow, but it was worth it the first time to have a cleared lawn. There was minimal assembly required, which was nice. The size is pretty good for my needs, though it takes me about 2.5 hours to mow mine and my neighbor's yard (recently decided to split that in half and do mine one week, hers the next in an alternating pattern). I use a 150 ft cord that I borrowed from my father so I have decent range and only have to plug into my neighbors house to do her front yard. I like the height sizes this mower has and it switches sizes in less than a second. So easy! It's somewhat quieter than a gas push mower. And my favorite feature of all: How easy it is to start. No pulling and pulling on a cord until my arm hurts. Just press a button and pull the lever on the handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This is my second greenworks lawnmower i've purchased. i was going to get a different brand because of price(cheaper) but realized the other brand was not as powerful, did not have mulching attachment, and grass bag was inferior. greenworks has also made some improvements to their mower making it easier to use

How do I add string to the spool? Thank you (5 amp corded model)

Asked by: rb2616
Hello rb2616, Thank you for your question. Here are the instructions for rewinding the line below! 1. Press the tabs simultaneously on the side of the trimmer head and remove the cover and spool. 2. Remove coil protection from the spool. 3. Remove any remaining line. 4. Clean dirt and debris from all parts. Replace spool if it is worn or damaged. 5. Replace with a pre-wound spool, or replace line using 15 feet (4.6 meters) of 0.065 inch (1.65mm) diameter line. 6. Insert one line into the anchor hole in the upper part of the spool while the other line into the anchor hole in the bottom part of the spool. 7. Wind the lines clockwise around the spool simultaneously, as shown by the arrows on the spool. 8. Position the lines in the guide slots. 9. Install the coil protection on the spool. Make sure the end of the cutting line is extended from the slots of the coil protection. 10. Place the spring in the trimmer head with its small end upward. Place the spool in the trimmer head. 11. Insert the ends of the lines through the line exit holes in the sides of the trimmer head. 12. Reinstall the cover onto the trimmer head. Push until cover snaps into place. I accidentally cut my extension cord and need to get a new one for this exact model. Bought two new Cords neither work. What exact type of cord do l need to buy (heavy/medium/light duty) plus what gauge and amp will work on this 16amp 10 gauge mower?

Asked by: Lc92
Hello Lc92, Depending on the length of extension cord required it should fall within these specifications: A 100’ (30 m) extension cord should be 14 AWG, a 50’ (15 m) extension cord should be 16 AWG, and a 150’ (45 m) extension cord should be 12 AWG. Undersized cords cause a drop in the line voltage, which leads to a loss of power and overheating. Here are a few other suggestions to check: 1) That you are using a working outlet. 2) When starting the lawnmower, start by pressing and holding the start button down for ~3 seconds then while still holding the start button down pull back the bail lever towards the handle with your opposite hand. Once the unit has started, you can release the start button and simply hold back the bail for continued operation.
